Teachers’ experiences on the use of educational materials in intercultural bilingual schools in Condesuyos, Arequipa
Resumen
This article presents the results of a qualitative research whose objective was to analyze the experiences of four teachers of rural Intercultural Bilingual Education (EIB) revitalization schools in Condesuyos, Arequipa (Peru) regarding the educational materials they implement in their classrooms. An interpretative phenomenological approach was used and interviews were applied. For the analysis, reflective thematic analysis was applied with the support of ATLAS.ti software. Two main themes were identified. The first one was challenges and barriers in the implementation of IBE educational materials, which accounts for the teachers’ experience implementing the materials, revealing insufficient training and teaching materials. The second theme, educational resources for the implementation of IBE, reflects the teaching benefits that teachers identify in the educational materials, as well as the pedagogical strategies they designed to complement them. It is concluded that it is necessary to improve the distribution of materials so that they arrive on time and in sufficient quantity. In addition, it is suggested to reeva-luate teacher training in the use of these materials, considering linguistic revitalization. Finally, the importance of having cul-turally relevant educational materials and the inclusion of indigenous communities in the educational process is emphasized.
