The role of the Peruvian Armed Forces in the event of natural disasters

Based on an analytical-deductive method, this article aims to identify the role the Peruvian Armed Forces have historically and currently played in the face of natural disasters. To this end, the characteristics of this participation, its constitutional legal framework, and its evolution from an auxiliary role to a principal role are evaluated, and some events of this type in which the Armed Forces have intervened are analyzed. After this, the institutional capacities available, the assigned roles, advantages and risks, and the armed force model under which this participation is developed are established. It concludes with recommendations and proposals so that this participation is effective and timely and does not affect the other roles of the Armed Forces or democratic institutions.
