Practices of copying in secondary education: Tensions between reproduction and agency PRÁCTICAS DE LA COPIA EN LA EDUCACIÓN SECUNDARIA Tensiones entre reproducción y agencia

From a perspective of literacy as a social practice, this research analyzes traditional practices of copying and more contemporary practices using technological resources among students enrolled in fifth grade or secondary studies at a public school in Lima, Peru. To this end, a quantitative methodology with an ethnographic perspective was employed; the data were obtained from classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with students and teachers, and document analysis. The results reveal tensions between the reproduction of copying and the students’ actions. On the one hand, the findings indicate a challenge regarding the practice of reproductive copying, which continues to play a central role in education and hinders the formation of individuals who create or transform knowledge; on the other hand, they underscore the importance of highlighting and understanding more agentive practices of copying..
