Description of the first recorded male and a range extension of Haemonides candida (Houlbert, 1917) (Lepidoptera: Castniidae) in southeastern Peru

We describe the first male specimen of Haemonides candida (Houlbert, 1917) collected in 2025 in Madre de Dios department, Peru, and report a second male from near the type locality. These records appear to be the first specimens of H. candida collected for more than 20 years and include the first for the department of Madre de Dios, expanding the known geographic range of the species south by approximately 300 km. The history of the species is also discussed.
