Resumen

With the aim of showing to what extent self-knowledge is a condition of the ethical life, the best possible life, I will try to clarify, first, the meaning of the best, following Scheler’s approach to the issue of the hierarchy of values; second, I will deal with the individual or personal nature of ethical life and point out its essential relation to the community, showing that the reason why Husserl refuses to establish a hierarchical order of values coincides with an essential feature of the person according to Scheler.
