Resumen

The present study analyses the reliability and validity of the Herth Hope Scale (HHS) in 368 university students. Altogether, the scale proved to work adequately. From the 30 items, 28 showed optimum psychometric properties. Once the 2 items that did not behave as expected were eliminated, the scale proved high reliability with an Alpha coefficient of, 89; and from, 71 to, 82 to its areas. An exploratory factorial analysis was used, these analysis shown four factors that explain the 45,9% of the variance. For the analysis of the convergent validity, the Life Satisfaction Scale by Pavot and Diener (1983) and the Life Orientation Questionnaire of Antonovsky (1993) were used. The correlations were, 598 and, 723 respectively. With these findings, a new scale consisting of 28 items is proposed.
