Resumen

The ability of NaNO2 to counter the corrosive effect of chloride on reinforcements embedded in mortar mixed with artificial sea water was assessed. The risk of the inhibitor being leached under immersion conditions, which can compromise the duration of its protective effect, and the ability of nitrites to protect rusted steel surfaces were also evaluated. A search for alternative inhibitors of similar efficiency in protecting the steel/concrete system provided no satisfactory results. © 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
