POLÍTICA Y CATOLICISMO EN EL PERÚ DECIMONÓNICO: ENTRE EL PATRONATO ESTATAL Y EL DESEADO CONCORDATO

Producción científica: Contribución a una revistaArtículorevisión exhaustiva

Resumen

The article studies the changes in the relationship between ecclesiastical and civil powers from the crisis of independence to the recognition of state patronato by the Holy See in 1875. The first section (1808-1854) analyses, on the basis of political debate, the birth, consolidation and crisis of the Catholic Republic in Peru. The second part (1855-1875) studies the impact on the configuration of religious and civil powers of the 1854 liberal revolution, the heated political and religious debate of 1856 and 1860, and the pontifical concession of the patronato in 1875. The study concludes by proposing that the process produced a differentiation between the religious and political spheres which, in turn, facilitated the institutionalisation of the Peruvian Church.
