Resumen

Taking into account the journalistic chronicles of the American traveler Fannie B. Ward, as well as other sources, the authors analyze how a tourist place can be developed through narrative construction and its characteristics. In this case, we study the city of Lima and its attractions at the end of the 19th century. Ward’s chronicles are examined and the most signifi cant aspects from her narrative of the city are raised, based on certain romantic topics and personal appre-ciations, presenting her as a modern gate-keeper. The study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the development of the initial tourism to Peru, as well as to assess the importance of journalism and travel reporting, which were fledgling in Latin America.
