Resumen
This article addresses the operational challenges of a timber company with 15 years of experience, focusing on delivery delays and transportation overcosts caused by inadequate scheduling in purchasing and transportation operations. To mitigate these issues, the implementation of a linear programming model is proposed, demonstrating significant improvements by optimizing operations and reducing costs. A comparative analysis between actual and optimal costs reveals a 17% decrease in the total productivity ratio during the model’s application month. Additionally, the model optimizes resource utilization in key areas such as production and storage, reaching 90% production capacity and 45% storage capacity. This optimization reduces overtime and the need for additional personnel while allowing time for preventive maintenance. Economic feasibility is supported by the reduction in total costs and the increase in profit margins. These results provide a valuable framework for improving operations in similar companies, demonstrating that linear programming is an effective and sustainable tool for long-term process optimization.
