Resumen
The debate among scholars about what constitutes the field of International Relations (IR) has gained importance since the beginning of the twenty-first century. Stanley Hoffmann's characterization of IR as an 'American discipline'1 generated an important discussion2 about the extent to which IR is global and about what the parameters of the discipline might be, when what seems to predominate is a transatlantic core that constitutes the mainstream of the discipline vis-à-vis a non-western periphery that has generally been neglected.
