Resumen
The paper explores different strategic levels of global escalation of conflicts in resistance to mining. The aim is to answer how do local communities make decisions regarding changes in scale at the international level, while considering the institutional options available at the national level. Based on two cases of resistance to gold mining –Tambogrande in Peru and Pascua Lama in Chile–, this study explains how local actors combine different levels of global and national escalation, taking into acount the characteristics of national en0076ironmental institutions.
