Resumen
Currently the Wigner function enjoys a renaissance in many branches of physics, ranging from quantum optics, nuclear, and solid state physics to quantum chaos. This renewed interest has triggered a search for operational definitions of the Wigner function, that is, definitions which are based on experimental setups. This paper proposes such a definition based on the resonant interaction of an atom with a single mode of the electromagnetic field.
