Resumen

This article analyzes the dialogue established by three Latin American plays published between 1878 and 1885 with the dominant sentimental regime: María de Vellido [sic], by Carolina Freire de Jaimes (1878); Las víctimas de la guerra, by Soledad Acosta de Samper (1884); and María o el despotismo, by the Lina López de Aramburú (1885). The article contrasts the assessment made by each of these intellectuals on the war and on the place that women occupy in these processes; In the same way, the tensions between their discursive proposals and the situation in which each of their countries found themselves at the time of the publication of the texts are reviewed. This will show how dramaturgy functioned as an ideal platform to escape from certain prescriptions of the Latin American literary field at the end of the century, in which the figure of the female author was not fully assumed as a possibility of existence for women.
