Resumen
The objective of this study was to generate energy spectra from the equation of absolute energy balance, using a set of updated acceleration records measured in Peru. Thereby it is shown up a design methodology based on the characterization of a given place by these energy spectra, to determine the response of a structure according to the limit state control design. So, energy spectra are generated based of linear and nonlinear analysis in order to calculate the energy transferred to the structure that comes from the soil movement, considering the overall behavior of the structure and hysteretic energy released in response to a severe earthquake, which depends on the degree of ductility of the system. Starting from the balance of energy introduced into a building during an earthquake and the energy dissipation mechanism, we applied the design methodology based on energy equations, assuming, according to former investigations, that energy demand during the occurrence of an earthquake can be predicted and the energy supplied to a structural element can be estimated [1].
