Resumen

This paper serves as an introduction to the design of force sensor systems with variable stiffness based on sinus hairs or vibrissae. Vibrissae are a biological role model to detect different mechanical surface characteristics with high adaptive abilities. The main purpose of this work is to present the design and control of a variable stiffness sensor system (VSS) in contact to a surface. Results include the performance of linear and nonlinear one degree of freedom (DOF) system models as well as a proposal of a mechanic variable stiffness control for future developments.
