Resumen
A comparative study of the corrosion resistance in boiling nitric acid has been carried out for P/M and cast AISI 304L and AISI316L stainless steels. The influence of sensitization and acid concentration on the corrosion rate have been determined. The results are discussed with reference to ASTM A262 (Huey test). Scanning electron microscopy was used to study the microstructural characteristics and the corrosion products. It is shown that the corrosion phenomenon in P/M steels is almost entirely due to pore induced crevices; a possible corrosion mechanism for the materials is proposed. © 1997 Canadian Institue of Mining and Metallugy.
