Blue and Green Infrastructure as Public Spaces: Five Proposals for Resilient Urban Development and Social Integration in Peru

In a context of social inequality, a high degree of informality, scarce planning, and hydrological vulnerability against climate change and natural hazards, blue and green infrastructure and high-quality public spaces emerge as key tools to promote resilient and sustainable urban developments from an environmental and social perspective. Five case studies developed in the Thesis Studio PFC1, of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), show how a holistic approach to urban design, landscape, and architecture, integrates an infrastructural and multifunctional perspective that expands the notion of blue and green infrastructure with an emphasis on public space quality, thus balancing urban growth, hydrological protection, and social well-being.
