Resumen
This article explores the self-perception of media competence among students of Social Sciences majors at private universities in Metropolitan Lima during the Covid-19 pandemic. For this, a qualitative investigation was carried out and the focus group was used as a technique. The findings show the disagreements between the teachers ‘perception and the students’ self-perception of the domain of the latter’s media competence. Finally, we conclude that the Covid-19 pandemic has generated important changes in the media competence of students motivated by their need to adapt to the new normal. These changes are related to languages (making powerful presentations and oral expression), technology (handling digital tools for collaborative work) and interaction processes (changes in interpersonal relationships mediated by technology).
