Resumen
During the Oligo-Miocene, the northern Altiplano corresponded to a compressive basin, filled up by sediments issued from the erosion of the Eastern Cordillera. During the Middle Miocene, the sedimentation at the eastern border of the Altiplano characterises a period of low tectonic activity of the Eastern Cordillera, as opposed to the west where hemi-graben of Mauri and Corque basins were activated. In the Upper Miocene, the compressive deformation was located in the centre of the Altiplano, and resulted in the tectonic inversion of the Corque basin. These compressive tectonics continued during the Pliocene.
