"Retelling": Gender and memory in three comics on the Peruvian Armed Conflict “Volver a contar” Género y memoria en tres historietas de Maneras peruanas

This article examines three comics on the Peruvian Armed Conflict (1980-2000) that reconstruct acts of violence decades after they occurred. They draw on “accompanied memories” co-constructed by the witness and the interviewer. The narratives center on Andean Female characters, thus inviting readings through a gender lens, a perspective almost absent from the Peruvian critical literature on the genre. Given the diversity of stories, styles and visual logics, these characters and their respective processes form a markedly plural and heterogenous group linked by the consistent presence of a “memory companion”.
