Dying on stage: an approach to the limits of Sergio Blanco's autofictional poetics in La ira de Narciso (The rage of Narcissus)
Resumen
The article proposes to read La ira de Narciso as Sergio Blanco's poetics. To do so, the myth of Narcissus is interpreted as an allegory of autofictional writing. Based on said premise, the mirrored dynamics present in the plot and in the mechanisms of composition of the play are analyzed. The combination of factual and fictional elements in the story, the use of metatheatrical resources in its construction, and its inquiry into the relationships between identity and otherness reveal that not only the text contains reflections on the author's autofictional poetics, but that this, in itself, is a performance of these principles. Along these lines, the narration of the death of the protagonist is a resource that, instead of contradicting the genre conventions, it rather emphasizes the poetic figure that characterizes it (the paradox), and thus reaffirms its identity as autofiction.
