Pinocchio in fascist Italy. Film in the teaching and learning of Contemporary History: A didactic Proposal

Cinema as a learning tool promotes the development of student’s historical thinking, stimulates creativity, and contributes to historical understanding by exploring cultural and historical contexts. This paper presents a didactic proposal designed to support teachers in the teaching– learning process of Contemporary History, focusing on the topic of fascism in Italy and based on the film Pinocchio (2022), directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson. It is intended for students in the fourth and fifth years of secondary education in Peru, in alignment with the objectives established in the Ministry of Education’s curriculum plan. The proposal is grounded in Lev Vygotsky’s constructivist theory and David Ausubel’s theory of meaningful learning, following an applied and didactic approach. It is complemented by study guides and materials based on the Observe, Reflect, and Apply (ORA) strategy.
