Semantics of Aymara causative verbs formed using the deverbative suffix -ya

The formation of causative constructions is a process of eventual change, as a product of the adhesion of a new participant to the predicate of origin. That is, here we are dealing with changes that occur at the level of the eventual structure of the predi-cates, which increase their valency through this morphological operation that we call causativization (Haspelmath, 2002). In Aymara, causative verbs are formed mainly by deverbative derivation, which consists of adding the suffix-ya to a verbal root or subject. This has syntactic and semantic consequences by involving the arguments in more than one way to express whether the causation is direct, indirect or transversal depending on the application of case markers. Considering the above, we set out the following objectives: to describe the morphological formation processes of Aymara causative verbs, to determine the constituents of the causative structure, and to explain the syntactic and semantic consequences of such derivations.
