Learning from failure: soft skills for sustainability in the VUCA environment

The of this chapter is to transform the pessimistic perception of failing and failure into a positive outcome. The process of learning from failure is embedded in a set of essential Soft Skills that cannot be replaced by hard skills. The Human Centered Management paradigm is at the forefront of SoftSkills revolution of the Knowledge Economy accelerating the transition from the hard skills, cognitive, technical, manual skills, in high demand during the industrial age but marginal today. Job markets are demanding people with Soft Skills that appear essential to thrive in life, at work, in society and are critical for advancing in the human centered economy. The Soft Skills approach used in this chapter aims to change the perception of personal and organizational failures proposing a model to transform them into opportunities for growth leading to wellbeing. The premise is that in the global VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) environment failing is the norm more than the exception. Clumsiness and status quo are no longer valid or successful options.
