Leveraging Generative AI for Digital Transformation in Dentistry

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is transforming digital dentistry by enhancing clinical decision-making, patient communication, and workflow integration. However, existing research remains fragmented across clinical, patient-facing, and laboratory contexts. This chapter addresses this gap through a systematic literature review (SLR) based on Scopus and Web of Science. The analysis focuses on three dimensions: (1) factors shaping acceptance and trust, (2) clinical and workflow applications, and (3) ethical and governance challenges. Findings show that GenAI adoption is a socio-technical process influenced by performance, user perceptions, and governance structures. GenAI demonstrates strong capabilities in diagnostic support and patient communication but remains complementary to professional judgment. Sustainable implementation requires ethical governance, regulatory clarity, human oversight, and bias mitigation strategies. The chapter positions GenAI as a cross-functional driver of digital transformation in dental ecosystems.
