Identificar los sectores con condiciones sociales y de movilidad muy desfavorables en Lima y Bogotá: una etapa previa para aplicar las encuestas del programa Modural sobre las prácticas de movilidad sostenible - Metodología y mapas

This report was produced as part of the Modural research programme "Sustainable mobility practices in Latin American metropolises: a comparative study of Bogota (Colombia) and Lima (Peru)". Modural is an international and multidisciplinary programme funded by the ANR (National Research Agency) of France. It focuses on daily mobility practices for work or study, with an emphasis on two issues that are a challenge for the city and social inclusion: sustainable mobility and the specific situation of deprived outskirts. The programme poses a central question: what factors could foster the adoption of more sustainable modes or practices in deprived outskirts, and what would be the impediments that could limit it? This question is still topical, but the epidemic situation that has shaken the world since March 2020 has made it necessary to integrate new questions and temporarily redirect the research objectives. Indeed, the difficulties of the outskirts of the city, already acute in normal times, have been worsened by the Covid-19 crisis, which makes the study of these sectors all the more justified. In a complementary way, it is now a matter of understanding what strategies households have used to cope with their forties, and how mobility practices have changed. We are also trying to ascertain whether these reactions and adaptations are only temporary or more durable, and whether they result in greater use of active modes such as walking or cycling. To qualify these practices, their sustainability and to assess the extent to which modal shift is possible, mixed (quantitative and qualitative) surveys will be applied to a sample of households in several outer areas of the two cities. In this report we present the general methodology that has been implemented to select the areas, a three-step methodology that combines quantitative and qualitative approaches.
