Fuentes grabadas de la obra de Diego Quispe Tito (1611–1681)

The purpose of this study is to identify the engraved sources of the oeuvre of Diego Quispe Tito, the emblematic painter of Colonial Cuzco. To this end, we will analyze 87 paintings by this artist, achieving the identification of the engraved sources of 49 of them. These sources were produced between 1549 and 1684. Of these, the majority are Flemish or Franco-Flemish, and derive, in turn, from works created between the middle of the 16th century and the end of the 17th. The discovery of the engraved sources of Quispe Tito (1) supports the identification of the originality or autonomy of his oeuvre, (2) contributes to the clarification of complex themes in it, (3) aids in the restitution of stolen works, (4) facilitates the recovery of lost works, (5) supports the conservation/restoration of damaged works, and (6) guides the replication of destroyed works.
