De los Andes a la selva oriental: Complejidad social y dinámicas ocupacionales en un corredor de ingreso a la Amazonía peruana (Chillia, Pataz, La Libertad)

In the current debate on Andean-Amazonian relations, the study of the social trajectory and complexity of the eastern margin of the Upper Marañón is a highly controversial topic. Some authors emphasize the historical depth of this region; others argue that its settlement resulted from late migrations. This study aims to contribute to this discussion by analyzing the materiality of sites located in the Chillia basin (Pataz, La Libertad), along a route of entry to the Amazon basin. We offer a perspective that seeks to reconcile existing theoretical models. Our findings indicate a long occupational sequence, suggesting a scenario where high Andean groups may have migrated towards the eastern foothills at the onset of the Middle Horizon.
