Trans-Pacific connection and Cine Nikkei in Peru: A conversation

This chapter, in the form of a conversation, offers an to Cine Nikkei (cinema by Japanese descents) in Peru and its promotion by Futari Proyectos, an initiative and platform spearheaded by two Peruvian women curators and scholars. To disseminate research on Asian cinema, especially films by Asian women, Futari Proyectos has discovered and exhibited old and new films in collaboration with Nikkei communities and other local, trans-regional networks. The founders outline the trajectory and research agendas of their initiative and programming, along with a genealogy and main characteristics of Nikkei cinema in the context of multi-generational immigration, trauma, and artistic explorations, as well as modern Peru’s turbulent socio-political history.
