Violence against older women, an emerging issue in Latin America
Resumen
Older women in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) face a multitude of vulnerabilities in later life, leaving them at greater risk of discrimination and violence. It is concerning that, despite the significance of this issue, there is limited understanding of their experiences of violence in the region due to recent academic and political interest. In light of this critical gap, this systematic review examines 72 qualitative and quantitative studies. It aims to assess the extent to which this emerging body of research has effectively addressed violence against older women in LAC as a gender- and age-based problem simultaneously and the gaps, limitations and main findings of this research.
