Efectos de los Huertos Urbanos Escolares en la Educación Ambiental y la Nutrición Infantil: Un Estudio en Instituciones Públicas De Lima Metropolitana
Resumen
This review article aims to analyze the effects of school urban gardens on environmental education and child nutrition in public institutions of Metropolitan Lima. Using the PRISMA methodological approach, 25 national and international scientific studies were selected and examined, addressing the implementation of school gardens in urban contexts and evaluating their educational and nutritional impact. The information was organized into three analytical categories: environmental competency development, improvement in eating habits, and implementation challenges. Findings show that school gardens strengthen ecological awareness, promote responsible attitudes toward the environment, and foster meaningful learning experiences. Additionally, they contribute to a greater preference for and consumption of fruits and vegetables, improving students' nutritional quality. However, structural barriers were also identified, such as the lack of resources, teacher training, and sustained institutional support. It is concluded that school gardens represent an integrated educational strategy with potential to influence the formation of environmentally responsible citizenship and the promotion of healthy lifestyles, provided that their implementation is participatory, planned, and contextualized.
