Trayectorias políticas en el Congreso peruano 2001–2021

Parliamentary political careers in Peru are generally short. Apart from Acción Popular, and Fujimori’s party, political parties lack continuous representation in the Peruvian Congress. This article examines the challenging conditions for parliamentary political careers between 2001 and 2021, in a context of weak political parties and high electoral volatility, a representation crisis, and the brief enforcement of the ban on immediate parliamentary re-election. Some careers were shaped by switching parties from one election to another, to seek better chances of securing seats.
