Resumen

This work details a practical methodology for capturing the 3D surface shape of a Chavin stone tenon head using fringe projection profilometry (FPP). The primary aim of this research is to contribute to the digital preservation of the cultural heritage of the Chavin civilization in Peru (900 to 250 BCE). Sinusoidal fringe patterns are projected onto the surface of the tenon head, which is situated on a rotating base equipped with a 360-degree rotation system. Thus, six phase-shifted fringe patterns are recorded prior to each 180-degree rotation of the base. Then, each set of captured patterns is analyzed in order to demodulate its phase and to compensate the shadows effects. A comprehensive 3D phase map is constructed by stitching the demodulated phases. Finally, a detailed 3D digital representation of the Chavin tenon head is generated. This work demonstrates the applicability of FPP for the non-contact, high resolution documentation of archaeological artifacts.
