Description
The REFRACT proposal answers the MSCA RISE call, aiming at the promotion of international and interdisciplinary collaboration through the sharing of knowledge and expertises between partners via staff exchange. REFRACT is based on the experiences gathered by the participants during the COST Action BM1405 ¿Non-globular proteins: From sequence to structure, function and application in molecular physiopathology¿ (NGP-net, URL: http://ngp-net.bio.unipd.it/). All the proponents are involved in NGPnet, with the REFRACT coordinator also chairing the COST Action. NGP-net, which has been running since 2015, has brought together a large European scientific community working on non-globular proteins. Non-globular proteins (NGPs) encompass different molecular phenomena that defy the traditional sequence-structure-function paradigm, attracting nowadays a lot of attention. At present, NGP-net counts about a hundred different host institutions from 30 participating countries. It has also created strong international links, notably to Argentina which is officially part of the COST Action. NGP-net has laid the foundations for the REFRACT proposal, as it defines the state of the art of research into tandem repeat proteins (TRPs). TR regions in proteins are considerably diverse, ranging from single amino acid homorepeats, that can be detected for their lack of sequence complexity, to cryptic repeats of up to forty residues per unit and even entire domains (A.V. Kajava, 2012). Almost 2 millions 300 thousand of euros for the project and the PUCP will get almos 100000
