Abstract
In 1970, the Special Regulatory Zone (SRZ) zoning category was created in Peru. Its objective was to intervene in irregular settlements. Three decades later, the category underwent a transformation. Following the neoliberal turn, SRZs began to be used with a variety of ends, such as extracting land values and opening new spaces for private investment. Based on archival research and the analysis of legal documents and newspapers, this paper explores this transition.
