N2 - Traffic is a common problem present in many cities worldwide. This issue has increased over the last years due to the increment of vehicles that circulate on the streets. The conventional traffic light systems have been evolving in countries with advanced technological development. In these cities, intelligent systems have been implemented achieving to reduce effectively the level of traffic; however, when these intelligent systems are implemented in other countries have not been successful. This is mainly because in developing countries like Peru, vehicular behavior is not the same as developed countries. For this reason, the present work has focused on proposing a traffic parameters survey methodology for the generation of virtual models in order to evaluate the traffic behavior on intersections, using the capital of Peru, as the case of study. The paper presents an analysis of the current state of traffic in the city of Lima and a methodology that explains the steps in order to determine the hours with higher level of traffic aiming to execute the data survey. By using the information acquired, it was possible to generate a virtual model to develop an accurate analysis of the evaluated areas. This way, the virtual model allows proposing a strategy in order to apply a solution to alleviate traffic congestion at intersections.
