Abstract

In the last few decades have seen significant economic, political, social and environ-mental issues in a way that directly or indirectly affect business. With the globalization of mar-kets, economies are more dependent on each other, and also more susceptible to the crisis, which also generates a higher degree of uncertainty. In addition, issues such as sustainable de-velopment and corporate sustainability are now in evidence which increases the responsibility of business to its stakeholders. The need to promote sustainable economic development is a challenge for businesses and government institutions, which in recent decades have sought solu-tions in this regard through protocols, conventions and agreements that were agreed upon in various summits. At the same time, creating guidelines, standards and certification systems provi-de companies with a broad debate about the management tools that are used to ensure sustainable development planning. In this context, our focus is to reflect on the challenges to sustai-nability in the twenty-first century with all these instruments and management policies applied to sustainable development in the company.
