Abstract

The Anales de la Inquisición de Lima is one of the most important and representative works by the Peruvian writer Ricardo Palma. Reading this work is particularly interesting because it allows the reader to better understand the author’s thinking and literary work more broadly. Additionally, the work offers an emblematic version of the Black Legend as related to the functioning of the Inquisition in colonial Peru. Despite the time elapsed since its first edition in 1863, it remains a text that is read and consulted by those interested in Palma’s work and colonial history.
