Abstract

The present study work has been carried out in a metalworking company dedicated to the manufacture of hospital furniture. The strategies are aimed at reducing the loss of balance in the work schedules with the aim of increasing productivity in the material transformation processes, for this reason it focuses specifically on the elimination of waste or activities that do not add value using the Map of value stream as a diagnostic tool. After that, the Lean Manufacturing tool: Heijunka was used to optimize the loss of balance in the work schedule that is the object of study. Likewise, the Kanban and Supermarket system was applied for inventories. A two-phase methodology was used. Phase one consists of the analysis of the time cycle, calculation of the takt time and number of process operators as well as the design of the Supermarket and Kanban. In the second phase, a training plan was programmed for the operators to convert the operators into multitasking, turning them into personnel with greater flexibility in the activities of the work cell. The main achievement is the reduction from 25% to 16% of the balancing losses of the work schedule and reducing inventories to zero. Likewise, there was a positive economic impact due to the generation of savings according to the financial indicators VAN, IRR, B/C and Recovery period.
