Abstract
A structural design technique based on strength and seismic performance criteria is presented, in order to be applicable to confined masonry buildings of medium height (up to five stories), constructed with solid bricks. This technique is based on several experimental tests performed in Peru and other countries, as well as in theoretical studies and lessons given by past earthquakes than affected such kind of buildings. Seismic simulation tests on shaking table and cyclic loading tests have been made in order to verify this technique.
