    Abstract

Peru is a country of diverse geographical regions: the Andean highlands running through the center from north to south; one of the driest deserts in the world along the Pacific coast; and the Amazonian rainforest to the east and on the slopes of the Andes. Spanish and Quechua (Kechua) are the principal languages in coastal and Andean Peru, with Aymara around Lake Titicaca, and numerous indigenous languages in the vast Amazonian watershed area.
