Abstract

This article introduce a design and application of an evaluation method of healthcare technology management (HTM) in Peruvian hospitals. The evaluation was designed under a comprehensive approach that included the following areas: Planning, acquisition, medical equipment management, operative risk, human resources, policies, organization and system, and monitoring. 52 interviews were conducted at three major hospitals in Lima. We found that the most vulnerable area is operative risk management. This indicator reflects a lower capacity to manage operational risks in comparison with international recommended standards and the necessity to design and implement a management system to revert this fact. Part of this work has been also the identification of difficulties in the conduction of processes to manage medical equipment.
