Abstract

The functional size measurement of the software allows to quantify the software to be developed considering the perspective of the user and independent of the platform or technology that will be used for its implementation. This measure can be used to estimate project effort and costs. This article shows the results obtained from a systematic mapping of the literature in order to know the trends of the application and research of this type of methods in software projects. After a selection process, 269 articles published from 2014 to 2021 were analyzed in order to obtain the research responses. This analysis included classifying the studies in application of the method, proposals for improvements or conversion to another, automation, predictions, or forecasts using machine learning techniques and, finally, proposals for new methods. The results indicate that the largest number of articles correspond to the method of the International Function Points User Group (IFPUG) followed by COSMIC.
