Abstract

The present article examines the semantic history of the Andean word taqui based on the analysis of colonial sources, especially the evangelization discourse domain. It is proposed that the word enters into the Spanish of colonial Andean area with the meaning 'dance and chant of the indigenous people' and that it worked as hypernym for the semantic field of Andean dances and chants that entered as loanwords into Spanish.
