Abstract
The objective of the study was to know the levels of self-perception of media competence and its relationship with the sociodemographic variables of the teaching staff of three educational institutions located in Lima. The method was quantitative, the descriptive correlational level and the non-experimental design. The self-perception questionnaire on media competence for teachers in training was applied as well as a data questionnaire to collect information on sociodemographic variables. The psychometric analysis of the instrument refers to content validity (agreement between Aiken V with values above .85 in all items) and high reliability (Cronbach's alpha of .92). The sampling was not incidental probabilistic, conforming a sample of 78 professors. The results indicate that the self-perception of media competence is distributed in a majority manner at low and medium levels. It is concluded that the construct correlates with all sociodemographic variables, being in favor of women, married, older teachers and years of experience, those who started with less than 30 years, those who teach in primary, the hired, those who studied in university, those who have a master's degree, work in the private school and are frequently trained and updated.
