Abstract

The current status of ethnic-linguistic, diverse, and deprived young scholars in South American countries will be explored in this chapter. Even though there is a scarcity of resources for public education, several programs with public and private funding are among the best practices to promote talent development and excellence among youth and young scholars. The challenges of gifted education in Peru that underline the advocacy efforts towards the indigenous population facing socio-economic inequity will be presented from a developmental and cross-cultural approach. Implications for future research will be elaborated on, along with recommendations for practice that includes the reiteration of promising approaches to support the talent development of gifted students from low socioeconomic circumstances, who belong to ethnic-linguistic minority groups.
