Abstract

Photocatalysis consists of various intriguing processes: excitation, separation, and transport of photogenerated charge carriers (excitons) to the photocatalyst-electrolyte interface to drive the fuel-forming reactions as illustrated in Figure 4.1. The details of processes taking place at the molecular level and the photochemistry involved in the photocatalytic water splitting are discussed in detail in Sections 2.1, 2.3, and 3.1.
