N2 - This work explores the potential of Augmented Reality (AR) to boost the sustainability of tourist experiences in the Peruvian Amazon, leveraging a comprehensive UX evaluation of the “Pacaya Samiria” AR platform. Motivated by the increasing role of technology in tourism, we delve into the multifaceted impact of AR on visitor behavior and environmental stewardship. The meticulously designed “Pacaya Samiria” AR platform immerses visitors in the Amazon’s biodiversity and cultural heritage while promoting eco-awareness. Employing advanced methodologies and UX expertise, we conducted a rigorous evaluation using focus groups and the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ). This allowed us to assess the platform’s strengths (immersion, education), weaknesses (technical challenges, cultural relevance), and overall impact on visitor perceptions and behaviors. Key findings highlight the crucial role of context-sensitive design and content curation for effective AR implementation in remote ecotourism settings. While “Pacaya Samiria" demonstrates promise, opportunities for optimization exist, particularly in addressing technical limitations and enhancing cultural integration. This research contributes to Sustainable HCI by offering actionable insights into how AR can support environmental conservation and enrich visitor experiences in ecotourism destinations. By unveiling the intricate dynamics of UX in the Amazon, we inform future initiatives harnessing technology for global sustainable tourism development.
