Abstract

This paper describes the design of a WiLD multihop network (backhaul), used to provide 3G services to eight villages located on the margin of the Napo River, and to interconnect fifteen health centers located on the same margin so they can have access to telehealth services with the Regional Hospital of Loreto (Iquitos). This design is part of a research project that includes the implementation and maintenance of the backhaul network. The objective of the project is to validate the use of the IEEE802.11n wireless technology for long distances as an economic and feasible solution to be used as a backhaul for the 3G service in disadvantaged rural areas like the ones located on the margin of the Napo River. Currently, there are six long distance wireless links are operating with a bandwidth of approximately 50Mbps of transmission and reception for a 39Km distance.
